Welcome to Wright Canada Holdings Ltd, a leading provider of forestry services. We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Crew Manager to lead our broadcast spray crew in remote locations.
Salary and BenefitsThe successful candidate can expect an attractive salary of $65,000 - $80,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus benefits, including provincial herbicide applicator certification, chainsaw competency training, and ongoing training and credentialing.
Job DescriptionAs a Senior Crew Manager, you will be responsible for supervising a team of technicians in the broadcast treatment of vegetation within designated areas. This involves communicating departmental policies, plans, and procedures to your team, conducting safety training, documenting hazard assessments, inspections, and morning meetings, and building and maintaining good working relationships with clients.
You will also be responsible for organizing logistics, navigating resource roads, and gaining access to remote worksites. Additionally, you will drive, inspect, and maintain large/heavy trucks with trailers, operate, inspect, and maintain Argos and other off-road vehicles, and work with helicopters.
Your tasks will also include maintaining spray packs and equipment, maintaining inventory for chemicals and other herbicide application accessories, assisting in filling sprayer tanks with water and chemicals, identifying and marking site boundaries and riparian areas, payroll and data entry, monitoring and recording of weather conditions, and waiting for ideal weather conditions.
You will be expected to follow the direction of the project manager and work in a remote setting, often in challenging weather conditions.
Required Skills and QualificationsTo be successful in this role, you will need:
- Experience managing crews in a forestry context and/or experience working with herbicide application
- Excellent leadership skills and the ability to handle stressful situations, as well as multitask
- A valid driver's license and experience driving and maintaining large vehicles
- Negative drug screen result(s)
- Valid first-aid certification (can train)
- Competency with Avenza PDF Maps, Excel, and mobile apps in general
- Map reading skills
- Physical fitness and the ability to carry 50+ pounds
- The ability to walk rapidly over debris on uneven terrain
- Decision-making skills
- A willingness to work, enjoy, and live in a remote setting
