Job Summary

Under the supervision of a senior professional, such as a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Registered Nurse, or Recreation Therapist, this role assists residents with assigned rehabilitative activities. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the care team to provide high-quality care and support to residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist residents with established rehabilitative activities, such as mobility and strengthening exercises, walking programs, and activities of daily living.
  • Demonstrate the use of prescribed treatment/adaptive devices, such as braces, wheelchairs, seating devices, and walkers, to residents as directed.
  • Participate in the retraining of residents for optimal function in personal/self-care related to activities of daily living.
  • Assist residents with dressing and toilet needs, as required, in preparation for and following rehabilitative treatment.
  • Transport residents to and from rehabilitative treatment areas using mechanical aids, such as wheelchairs and stretchers.
  • Attend resident care conferences and other related meetings, as directed, and participate in department quality improvement initiatives.
  • Report observations of resident behavior and progress to Therapist/Nurse and communicate concerns and/or changes to the resident's condition.
  • Complete resident care statistics and records program information as per established procedures.
  • Set up and organize equipment for related activities as directed and clean and maintain equipment, reporting malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff.
  • Maintain established inventory of equipment, devices, and materials.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a Rehabilitation Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
