Health and Safety Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Health and Safety Specialist to join our team at Maple Leaf Foods Inc. As a key member of our Operations team, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining our Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) programs, policies, systems, and reports for the Heritage Plant.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and construct Safe Work Procedures (SWPs) to identify job steps, tasks, hazards, and risks, and develop safe operating procedures and hazard controls.
- Enforce the company's Golden Rules and other site programs through cross-functional team meetings.
- Maintain OHS metrics and documentation, and present information to applicable parties.
- Design and deliver training programs for workers, management, and Safety Committee members to comply with legislative requirements and improve Health, Safety, Emergency, and Security.
- Assist in reducing Health and Safety risks and hazards through onsite behavioral observations and targeted audits.
- Support Pre-Start Health and Safety Reviews (PSRs) for installation of new equipment, structures, protective elements, or processes, and detail measures necessary to bring the construction, addition, installation, or modification into compliance with applicable regulations.
- Review and monitor on-site Contractor OHS programs and compliance with applicable regulations.
- Respond to and provide support in accident response, including first aid and support proper investigation and follow-up.
- Support emergency management activities, including drills, tabletop exercises, evacuation support, and respond to support the incident command structure in the event of an actual emergency.
- Maintain content and data analysis of supporting software for site programs under the purview of the department, including SAP, iWarehouse, iNet, Alchemy Systems, and other PPE or vendor-specific platforms.
- Maintain records and documentation for all programs under your purview.
- Ensure integrity of data and confidentiality of employee information.
- Support and influence multiple levels of management within an organization.
- 3-5 years of experience in progressively responsible H&S roles.
- Previous experience working supporting a large client group in a fast-paced environment within specified time frames is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
- Knowledge of compliance and regulatory training of all personnel working onsite.
- Computer proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of software, including MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Previous experience working with regulatory bodies such as the Ministry of Labour or Ministry of the Environment would be an asset.
- Knowledge in WSIB claims management would be considered an asset.
