The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Resource Pool team at the IWK Health Centre. As a Resource Nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Reporting to the Manager, Emergency Care, you will be accountable for the application of current theory and research in the delivery of family-centered patient care. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to provide care to patients and families across various care areas, including the Emergency Department, Hematology, Oncology, Nephrology, Medical Surgical Neurosciences Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and Pediatric Medical Unit.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing direct patient care and collaborating with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans
  • Participating in unit-specific orientations and training programs to ensure proficiency in care areas
  • Working rotating shifts, including days, evenings, and nights, to meet the needs of the unit
  • Developing and maintaining strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams
  • Staying up-to-date with current research and best practices in pediatric nursing to provide evidence-based care

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing and currently registered or eligible to become registered with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN)
  • Minimum one year experience in pediatric nursing required
  • Emergency, Critical care nursing experience is an asset
  • Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support Level (BLS) Program within the last 12 months, or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate, required
  • Excellent flexibility and collaboration skills and adjustment to varying patient workloads required
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills required
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, including clinical judgment, problem-solving skills, and strong decision-making ability required
  • Commitment to obtain Pediatric Advance Life Support within 2 years of the hiring date required
  • Competency in other languages is considered an asset
