Job Description
We are currently seeking a highly skilled Oracle DBA professional on a 10-month contract to join our established institution and work with multiple groups within BMO.
This role offers a unique opportunity to build effective skills and confidence, exposing you to various lines of business and providing ample opportunities for learning, growth, and development. You will have access to a dynamic work environment with a great culture and global presence.
The key responsibilities of this position include:
- Performing data analysis and maintenance activities to proactively address the bank's needs for identifying, classifying, modeling, storing, and accessing information;
- Understanding data in terms of its business and technical lifecycle (Create, Release, Update, and Delete), technical underpinnings of database theories (e.g., structured, unstructured), and various data modelling concepts in both the logical and physical domains;
- Administering and documenting data backup and recovery plans, capacity plans, and security plans;
- Assisting in planning and participating in tests for new products and data technology releases to ensure features and functions are acceptable and integrated across systems, software, and platforms;
- Proactively investigating and troubleshooting database, technical, and systems problems, directing corrective action;
- Identifying and recommending process or system changes to avoid issues/problems;
- Recommending and implementing solutions based on analysis of issues and implications for the business;
- Identifying emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making;
- Leading/conducting detailed data design reviews and providing feedback in a constructive manner;
- Performing complex technical, analytical, and professional services involving program/member services, evaluation, database-driven Web sites, office operations;
- Designing and implementing methods to store, organize, and present data, as well as automating data operations;
- Interacting with key stakeholders to define, analyze, and deliver requirements that reflect the needs of both the business and end-customers;
- Decomposing business requirements and translating them into detailed data design specifications;
- Designing and implementing maintenance/backup plans to keep databases in optimal conditions to minimize potential customer data errors and loss;
- Designing and implementing security measures for databases;
- Building data solutions that utilize the enterprise monitoring/logging, and require minimal to zero maintenance, or programmer, DBA, or Operations intervention to perform standard business maintenance/configuration;
- Identifying opportunities to strengthen the capability of the technology organization at BMO, such as sharing expertise to promote technical development, mentoring employees, building communities of practice and networks across technology;
- Staying abreast of industry technical and business trends through participation in professional associations, practice communities & individual learning;
- Focusing primarily on business/groups within BMO, may have broader, enterprise-wide focus;
- Providing specialized consulting, analytical, and technical support;
- Exercising judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules;
- Working independently and regularly handling non-routine situations;
- Broad work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements
We are looking for a highly experienced Database Administrator with a strong background in Oracle, SQL, and MySQL. The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of experience in Database Administration, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality results and driving business outcomes.
The estimated salary for this position is $120,000 - $150,000 per year, depending on your level of experience and qualifications. This figure is based on national averages and market rates for similar positions in the industry.
