Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team at the Manitoba Government. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of heavy duty equipment used in highway construction and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical problems with heavy duty equipment, including diesel and gas engines.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes and filter replacements.
  • Conduct welding repairs and fabrication of mechanical parts.
  • Supervise staff and provide direction and management of quality work.
  • Work independently with strong organizational and time management skills.
Requirements
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must possess an Interprovincial Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic Licence or Truck Transport or Agricultural red seal certification.
  • Must possess a Truck/Trailer Safety certificate or ability to obtain.
  • Must obtain a MOPIA certificate or ability to obtain.
  • Must have experience in the service and maintenance of heavy duty equipment and components, including diesel and gas engines.
  • Must have experience in the repair and overhaul of heavy duty equipment and components, including diesel and gas engines.
  • Must have experience in welding repairs and fabrication of mechanical parts.
  • Must have good verbal communication skills.
Working Conditions

The incumbent will work with minimal assistance and under limited supervision, reporting to a Senior Tradesperson, Mechanical Supervisor or Designate. Work assignments will involve mechanical diagnoses, repair and maintenance of all types of highway construction and maintenance equipment. The incumbent must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, which may include occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, twisting, reaching, standing for long periods of time and working outdoors for extended periods of time under various weather conditions.
