About the Opportunity

As a key member of Nova Scotia Health Authority's Healthy Communities team, the Youth Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in empowering communities and schools to improve their health. This position requires a strong background in youth engagement, health promotion, and community development.

The successful candidate will work closely with schools, community organizations, and regional partners to support the implementation of Health Promoting Schools and youth wellbeing action plans. This includes developing and implementing youth engagement strategies, peer mentoring programs, and knowledge and skills building initiatives.

The ideal candidate will possess a baccalaureate degree in a relevant field, with a minimum of two years of related experience. A master's degree is preferred. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of population health and health promoting schools approaches, as well as excellent communication and partnership-building skills.

About You

  • Baccalaureate degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Education, Community Youth Development, or other relevant field with relevant experience.
  • Masters' degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years related job experience.
  • Experience in working with youth, including developing and implementing youth engagement, peer mentoring, and knowledge and skills building strategies.
  • Experience in planning, development, and evaluation of health promotion policies and programs.
  • Demonstrated understanding of a population health and health promoting schools approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders using a variety of methods.
  • Demonstrated success in building strategic partnerships, networks, coalitions, and collaborative working relationships with a variety of internal and external partners to support HPS planning and work.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary setting with a strong focus on school settings.
  • Demonstrated planning, organizational, and time management skills. Ability to deal with competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated judgment, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and conflict management skills.
  • Demonstrated innovative systems thinking with an understanding of working with schools and communities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community development and mobilization.

About You Continued

  • Demonstrated knowledge in organization and behavior change and social movement theory, theories of school change, critical analysis, strategic framing.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Exceptional time management and priority setting skills.
  • Travel will be required for this community-based position- a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset.

Hours
  • Permanent Full Time/% FTE / 70 Hours Bi-weekly
Compensation and Incentives

$35.09- $44.10 Hourly
