Heavy Duty Mechanic

Vertex is seeking a skilled Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team. As a Heavy Duty Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing scheduled preventative maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, troubleshooting damaged industrial vehicles, and completing repairs or refurbishing damaged components of a vehicle.
Responsibilities:- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment
- Troubleshoot damaged industrial vehicles by inspecting hoses, fuel lines, fuel injector failure, coolant related issues, wiring and light problems, air leaks, clutch and transmission repairs, wheels, brake and steering components etc.
- Complete repairs or refurbishing damaged components of a vehicle such as transmissions and clutch replacements, alternators, steering components, air leaks/fittings, and brake shoes etc.
- Operate hand power tools such as impact wrenches, torque wrenches, and drills
- Lift and carry hydraulic pumps, vehicle seats, hosing, brake pots, and links of chain
- Complete two-person lifts when handling brake shoes or vehicle seats
- Complete “live” troubleshooting on damaged vehicles by operating them in order to identify the root cause of a malfunction
- Determine and document required repairs
- Prepare work orders/cost estimates for service approval
- Perform testing and inspection to ensure repairs are complete and in compliance with manufacture specifications and government regulations and standards
- Complete required documentation and reporting for inspections and repairs
- Conduct field inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs, both scheduled and random
- Provide troubleshooting, course of action for emergency repairs
- Conduct all job responsibilities in accordance with Vertex HSE standards, guidelines, and rules
- Heavy Duty Mechanic journeymen certificate
- Heavy-Duty Mechanic experience preferably with Hydrovac, Semivac and Vac truck
- Can Complete a CVIP inspection
- Experience with hydraulic repairs and diesel engine repair
- Clean drivers’ abstract (must provide an abstract and photocopy of license)
- Demonstrate a commitment to environmental compliance and safe work practices
- Must hold current and up to date first-aid
- Ability to perform duties in a safe and efficient manner
- Ability to work independently while managing time and productivity
- Must be in good health and physical condition to perform duties assigned
- Successful candidates will demonstrate integrity and reliability
- A valid class 1 or 3 drivers’ license is considered an asset
