About the Role:


As a Senior Transportation/Transit Utility Estimator at Black & McDonald Limited, you will play a critical role in preparing electrical take-offs and estimates on MTO and Transit projects. Located in Scarborough, Ontario, this position requires a highly skilled estimator to provide technical support to project operations, focusing on electrical estimating, reporting, and monitoring progress, planning, and scheduling.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Taking Off Electrical/Civil Work: Prepare accurate electrical/civil work take-offs and estimates on transportation and transit projects, including streetlighting, traffic intersections, intelligent traffic systems, and duct banks.
  • Cost Estimation: Estimate costs of materials, labor, and equipment required for projects based on drawings and specifications.
  • Tendering Process: Establish and maintain tendering processes, set up cost monitoring, reporting systems, and procedures.
  • Supplier Coordination: Coordinate price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, and owners regarding tenders.
  • Site Review and Meetings: Participate in site review, tender review, tender hand-off, and project closing meetings as required.
  • Directory Maintenance: Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Communication and Liaison: Liaise, consult, and communicate with engineers, owners, contractors, and subcontractors, and prepare value design proposals for estimates.
  • Bid2Win Database: Update and maintain the Bid2Win database.
  • Tender Schedules: Develop tender construction schedules.
  • Scope Execution: Develop methodology and execution of scope of work.

Education Requirements:



  • Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
  • Construction fundamentals diploma.
  • Electrical trades background.


Work Experience Requirements:



  • 5+ years' estimating experience on transportation and/or transit construction projects.
  • Experience using Bid2Win estimating software is an asset.


Skills and Abilities:



  • Proficient user of MS Office (Word, Excel, Project Scheduling).
  • Proficient user of Bid2Win estimating software.


Estimated Salary Range: $85,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience.
