GIS/Planning Technician

The City of Iqaluit is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented GIS/Planning Technician to join our team. In this role, you will support the design, management, analysis, and functionality of spatial and relational data related to municipal land, community planning, and civil works.



Key Responsibilities


  • Support Senior Community Planners in various planning tasks, including community engagement, strategic planning, development facilitation, and compliance review.
  • Assist in the development, management, and analysis of relational databases.
  • Utilize GIS software such as ArcGIS and QGIS for analyzing spatial data and creating various maps to support community planning and civil works.
  • Collaborate with team members to participate effectively in project teams and contribute to the development of community plans.
  • Develop and maintain accurate and up-to-date records and reports related to community planning activities.


Requirements


  • Possess a 2-year diploma in Environmental Technology, Public Policy, Geographic Information Systems, or equivalent.
  • A Class 5 Driver's License is required.


Assets


  • Proficiency in computer software programs for office use, including Microsoft Suite, spreadsheets, and statistical analysis programs.
  • Familiarity with GIS software such as ArcGIS and QGIS for analyzing spatial data and creating various maps to support community planning and civil works.
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS Online, web mapping tools, CAD software, and online survey tools would be advantageous.
  • Experience in developing, managing, and analyzing relational databases.
