Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Planning & Design Technologist 2 to join our team at FortisBC. As a key member of our planning department, you will be responsible for planning, estimating, and coordinating complex distribution projects. Your expertise will be essential in developing designs for our distribution systems, preparing pricing and cost estimates, and conducting field reconnaissance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate projects, including defining customer requirements, creating and maintaining customer data, and ensuring all service product requirements are collected.
  • Process jobs, including reviewing foreign utility data, drafting written work procedures, completing electronic layout or engineering drawings, and confirming and updating pipe sizing.
  • Ensure completion of the job and maintain customer relations, including building relationships with customers and external contacts, responding to customer inquiries, and acting as a primary contact for premium rated builder/developers and internal/external customers.
  • Respond to operational and maintenance issues, including overbuilds of plant, metering consolidations/de-consolidations, meter protection, and corrosion maintenance.
  • Provide direction to Planning and Design Technicians and Technologist 1's within the department.
Requirements
  • Education: technology diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution in a directly related field. Must be registered or eligible for registration with ASTTBC.
  • Experience: four (4) years directly related, relevant work experience.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems operations, environment, and peripherals, and various applications software in use in the department (SAP & suite of MS Office products).
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work under pressure during peak workload periods to meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, including telephone call handling skills and the ability to respond to difficult or demanding situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems of a technical nature, and understand the implication of costs, risks, operability, and safety.
  • Sound analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Valid Class 5 British Columbia Driver's license.
Additional Information
  • This position has restricted holiday availability based on operational requirements for certain months of the year, as per Article 14 of the MoveUp/FortisBC Collective Agreement.
  • This position may involve working shift work or late coverage depending on customer and operational requirements.
