Job Description

Teaching Position in Physical Education and Indigenous Support

The York Region District School Board is seeking a dedicated and passionate educator to join our team as a Physical Education and Indigenous Support Teacher. This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate who is committed to helping students achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach Physical Education and Health Education to students at the primary and intermediate levels
  • Develop and implement engaging Indigenous education learning activities that meet the BC curriculum requirements
  • Work with Elders, Indigenous communities, and Aboriginal Education Councils to develop and implement culturally responsive teaching practices
  • Plan and deliver outdoor education and environmental education programs that promote student learning and well-being
  • Use technology to support learning and teaching, and integrate socio-emotional learning and self-regulation in the classroom
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement the School Growth Plan and to organize the school and classroom for learning
  • Use assessment strategies that engage and foster learning, and teach and engage all learners in multi-grade classrooms that foster equity and inclusion
  • Build relationships with parents and community, and participate in the school's extra-curricular programs

Requirements:

  • Major in Physical Education, Sport Science, Kinesiology, or Outdoor Education at the university level
  • Successful PE and Health Education teaching experience at the primary and intermediate level
  • Undergrad or postgraduate diploma or coursework in Indigenous Studies and Aboriginal Education
  • Experience working with Elders, Indigenous communities, and Aboriginal Education Councils
  • Experience in planning and designing engaging Indigenous education learning activities, and experience teaching the BC curriculum
  • Experience teaching outdoor education and environmental education
  • Skills and experience implementing technology to support learning and teaching
  • Experience integrating socio-emotional learning and self-regulation in the classroom
  • Strong interpersonal skills and strengths working in a team environment
  • Excellent classroom management skills and proven ability to engage all learners
  • Commitment to co-developing the School Growth Plan and to collaboration in organizing the school and classroom for learning
  • Exemplary use of assessment strategies that engage and foster learning
  • Strengths in teaching and engaging all learners in multi-grade classrooms that foster equity and inclusion
  • Commitment and expertise building relationships with parents and community
  • Willingness to participate in the school's extra-curricular programs
