Job Title: Working Chief Engineer

The Working Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operation of various systems within the facility, including heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning equipment, electrical systems, and more visible systems such as elevators, grounds, and lighting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and repair heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning equipment
  • Ensure the proper functioning of electrical systems, including utility and emergency power
  • Oversee the maintenance and operation of elevators, grounds, and lighting systems
  • Develop and implement a Preventative Maintenance Program to ensure the optimal functioning of all systems
  • Train and develop employees to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties
Requirements:
  • Valid Manitoba or Inter-provincial 3rd Class Power Engineer Certificate
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in Power Engineering at the current level
  • Maintenance and use of fire protection and firefighting equipment
  • Acceptable training and experience in the ongoing operation and maintenance of a large facility, preferably healthcare
  • Experience in the use of personal computers and various software
Abilities and Skills:
  • Ability to evaluate necessary management information from a Preventative Maintenance Program
  • Ability to train and develop employees
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing in both official languages
  • Ability to understand technical language and manuals
  • Demonstrated leadership in fostering an open and respectful work environment
  • Demonstrated independent and collaborative decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be in good physical and mental health
  • Ability to demonstrate a satisfactory employment record, including attendance
  • Current Criminal Record Check for the Vulnerable sector and Adult Abuse Registry Check deemed satisfactory by the Employer
Knowledge:
  • The Power Engineers Acts
  • The ability to work within a team in establishing "best practices" within budgetary constraints
  • Safe and proper methods of operating/maintaining and repairing structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems in a large facility

This position is designated bilingual (French/English). All staff are hired for the facility. Employees may hold more than one position in different Actionmarguerite facilities, where the sum total of hours does not exceed 1.0 full-time equivalence.
