Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Operations Director to lead our facilities management team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily activities of mechanical and electrical maintenance in our shipyard facility. Your primary objective will be to ensure efficient operation of production equipment, production lines, and equipment.

The successful candidate will provide direction and guidance to the maintenance team to maintain and repair production equipment, as well as mobile equipment, temporary services, building, and grounds maintenance repairs. You will also be responsible for managing and coordinating the work of multiple subcontractors and suppliers, effectively scheduling variety of mechanical and electrical work and maintenance.

Your role will involve inspecting equipment for needed repairs and maintenance and repairing requests, performing frequent on-the-job inspections to ensure safe working habits, safe work areas, quality of workmanship, effectiveness of maintenance and repairs. You will also be responsible for implementing and enforcing Seaspan Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality processes on the shop floor and striving to eliminate safety hazards at every opportunity.

This is a full-time, permanent position with a competitive salary range of $115,000-$127,000 per year, depending on experience. Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate the work of multiple subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Effectively schedule a variety of mechanical and electrical work and maintenance.
  • Routinely inspect equipment for needed repairs and maintenance and repair requests.
  • Perform frequent on-the-job inspections to ensure safe working habits, safe work areas, quality of workmanship, effectiveness of maintenance and repairs.
  • Implement and enforce Seaspan Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality processes on the shop floor and strive to eliminate safety hazards at every opportunity.
  • Report internally on work process and status.
  • Raise technical trade issues with Management and implement solutions as identified by Management.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Red Seal certification as an Electrician or Industrial Mechanic, or a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • At least 3 years' supervisory experience in a union environment.
  • Facilities management experience and/or electrical plant maintenance experience.
  • Maintenance and repair work experience with robotic welding and cutting machines, fume extractors, dust collectors, heating and ventilation systems, air compressors, mobile equipment: manlift, forklift.
  • Proficient knowledge of trade responsibilities specific to heavy manufacturing (welding, metal fabrication, electrical, pipefitting, paint/sandblasting, mechanical, rigging).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient with MS Office products and web-based applications.
  • Strong management and leadership skills, including the ability to motivate and work with others to achieve desired results.
  • Appreciates and understands the value of diversity within a team.
  • Conflict resolution and negotiations skills to resolve disagreements quickly and effectively.
  • Experience in the application of behavioural based safety.
  • Mature decision-making skills with the ability to make timely job site decisions.
