About the Role

The John Howard Society of Durham Region is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to fill the position of Youth Employment Coordinator. This role is a key part of our Employment and Training Services division, and the successful candidate will play a vital role in helping us achieve our mission to reduce the impact of crime and its causes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Management
    • Assist the program director in recruiting and interviewing program staff
    • Supervise program staff, including training, mentoring, coaching, motivating, and conducting performance appraisals
    • Maintain staff records and collect relevant information to support performance management of the project
    • Contribute to budgeting and financial management
    • Develop and implement systems to ensure statistical data and reporting requirements are met
    • Ensure services are delivered consistently with the Youth Employment Skills Strategy (YESS)
    • Manage workload distribution among teams to ensure deliverables are met
    • Implement quality control measures for employer and service user financial incentives
  • Community and Statistical Administration
    • Attend and contribute to community meetings and events to promote the project
    • Provide public presentations to community groups, youth, and other stakeholders
    • Cultivate relationships with community organizations and businesses
    • Support the program director in developing funding and program proposals
    • Collaborate with community partners to refer and recruit youth with complex employment barriers
    • Establish relationships with employers and sector associations to determine job opportunities and advocate for participant job placement
    • Explore new resources and labour market information to stay current and provide additional information on training and job search techniques
    • Make referrals to community agencies as deemed appropriate
  • Qualifications
    • Relevant post-secondary diploma or degree
    • Related experience in leadership and supervisory activities
    • Related experience with adults and youth in career and employment counselling
    • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to diversity related to race, religion, culture, cognitive functioning, poverty, sexual orientation, and gender identity
    • Applies ethical behavior in all areas while representing JHSD
    • Adheres to organizational policies and standards in the performance of all tasks
    • Develops positive and appropriate relationships with co-workers, funders, and other professionals in the community
    • Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing and appropriate professional development
    • Uses effective analytical skills and problem-solving ability
    • Collects, analyzes, and uses information effectively
    • Manages work effectively, utilizing efficient planning and time management skills and meeting deadlines and internal service expectations
    • Follows mandated program procedures
