Academic Instructor

This course will explore the complex relationships between mental health, the law, and the criminal justice system. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the nature and extent of mental illness in society, as well as the legal, social, and ethical issues that arise when individuals with mental health issues interact with the justice system.
Course Details- Course Description: This course will examine the medical and legal definitions of mental disorder, the criteria for state-compelled treatment, and the changing views of the justice system's duty to accommodate victims and witnesses with mental health issues.
- Session: The course will be delivered over a period of 14 weeks, with lectures taking place on Tuesdays from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.

- Estimated Course Enrolment: 40
- Estimated TA Support: Approximately 60 hours
- Preparation and Delivery of Course Material: The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and delivering course material, including lectures, assignments, and exams.
- Supervision of Teaching Assistants: The candidate will also be responsible for supervising teaching assistants, including providing instruction on how to mark assignments and holding office hours.
- Marking of Student Work: The candidate will be responsible for marking student work, including assignments and exams.
- Submission of Grades: The candidate will be responsible for submitting grades to university officials.
- Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Psychology or Law, or an LLB with specialization and experience in Law & Evidence in the field of Forensic Sciences.
- Preferred Qualifications: Relevant qualification, professional designation, or professional experience; teaching excellence and mastery of the subject area; experience with management and delivery of courses using University of Toronto or similar systems.
