Job Description

The Regional Municipality of York is seeking a highly skilled Water and Wastewater Optimization Specialist to join our team.

About the Role

This exciting opportunity will see you working closely with our Project Manager, Process Optimization & Analytics, to optimize advanced and conventional water or wastewater treatment processes. You will be responsible for conducting on-site investigations, numerical and computerized modelling, as well as diagnostic and treatability analysis at various scales. Your research skills will come in handy as you work with partners to develop new methodologies, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and ISO standards.

You will also provide training on new technologies and ensure quality assurance activities to support continuous improvement efforts within the Branch.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review benchmarking data and track operational parameters to troubleshoot and monitor treatment systems performance.
  • Provide advice and recommendations on equipment upgrades, process modifications, and new procedures.
  • Conduct bench-scale, pilot-scale, and full-scale testing of optimization strategies.
  • Ensure quality assurance activities to monitor program effectiveness and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Develop and manage standard operating procedures, operations manuals, methods, and policies related to quality management system requirements.
  • Monitor asset management standards for infrastructure and develop research partnerships with academic agencies.
  • Oversee engineering consultants and manage feasibility/functional studies and projects for water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Lead project teams, coordinate trials of new technology, and participate in external technical committees.
Qualifications
  • University Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PEO) is mandatory.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with municipal water and wastewater treatment techniques, complex hydraulic systems, and budgeting processes.
  • Ability to travel and work outside normal business hours.
Estimated Salary: $85,000 - $115,000 per annum

Based on location and industry standards, this role comes with a competitive salary package that reflects your expertise and qualifications.
