At McKeil Marine, we are seeking a skilled and experienced Health and Safety Specialist to join our team and play a crucial role in supporting our operations. Reporting into the ORM Manager, this role will be primarily responsible for working collaboratively with the Health and Safety team and Operations department to ensure compliance with federal regulations and promote a vibrant safety culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Identify and mitigate Health and Safety risks on a continual basis.
  • Conduct effective incident investigations and provide recommendations for preventative measures.
  • Prepare and manage supporting claim documentation for underwriting of incidents.
  • Collaborate with ORM and Operations to facilitate and lead company safety standards and annual objectives.
  • Perform internal and external audits to provide recommendations for corrective findings.
  • Facilitate high-level operational risk assessments.
  • Provide onboarding orientation to new hires.
  • Implement programs to promote the wellbeing of crew members.
  • Provide safety training and visit company vessels to evaluate and examine current Health and Safety measures.

Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in Health and Safety or related field.
  • Five years of experience in the industrial or transportation industry.
  • Knowledge of federal Health and Safety regulatory requirements.
  • Strong ability to interpret and apply regulatory standards to the marine industry.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to investigate and resolve workplace incidents.
  • Certified trainer or experience in providing training.
  • Auditing capabilities in the federal HSE environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Burlington head office with some travel to company vessels and warehouse(s).
  • Additional hours may be required dependent on operational demand.
  • Hybrid work schedule upon successful completion of onboarding.
