Medical Laboratory Assistant

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the pre and post-analytical phases of testing, ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of laboratory operations.
Key Responsibilities- Perform various functions related to specimen procurement, receipt, and processing, including data entry, media preparation, and sterilization.
- Provide excellent customer service and interact with various stakeholders and clients.
- Work collaboratively with laboratory staff to ensure smooth laboratory operations.
- Adhere to all applicable NSH policies and procedures, including safety and infection prevention and control protocols.
We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in medical laboratory science, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently. If you have a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent, and are registered with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science, we encourage you to apply.
Requirements- Recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent.
- Registration with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments and small objects.
- Ability to accurately number and label specimens and file slides and requisitions.
- Ability to adapt to updates and changes in operating procedures.
- Basic computer skills, with Meditech experience preferred.
- Access to reliable transportation, as travel may be required.
- Competencies in other languages an asset, with French preferred.
This is a permanent, full-time position with a 75-hour bi-weekly schedule. The hourly rate is $23.19 - $26.27, and successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, including health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
