About the Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will work collaboratively with our team to support the pre and post-analytical phases of testing. Your responsibilities will include specimen procurement, data entry, media preparation, sterilization, and clerical duties. You will also be responsible for loading specimens on an analyzer and performing other tasks as required. Positive patient identification and accurate specimen handling are essential to this role.

About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual with a strong understanding of medical terminology. You will have a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent, and have successfully completed the Medical Laboratory Assistant examinations of the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science. You will also have strong written and verbal communication skills, basic computer skills, and the ability to work independently. French language skills are an asset.

Hours

This is a permanent, full-time position with a 75-hour bi-weekly schedule. You will be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays, and may be required to work off-site in long-term care facilities or private homes.

Compensation and Incentives

The successful candidate will receive a competitive hourly rate of $23.19 - $26.27, as well as a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, travel, and life insurance coverage, and a defined benefit pension plan.
