Medical Laboratory Assistant

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the pre and post-analytical phases of testing, ensuring accurate and efficient specimen handling, and providing exceptional customer service to our patients and stakeholders.
About YouWe are looking for a candidate with a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent, and who has successfully completed the Medical Laboratory Assistant examinations of the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and has current registration with CSMLS. Strong written and verbal communication skills, basic understanding of medical terminology, and manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments and small objects are essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities- Perform various functions relating to the pre and post-analytical phases of testing, including specimen procurement, data entry, media preparation, and clerical duties.
- Work collaboratively with laboratory staff to ensure accurate and efficient specimen handling and testing.
- Provide exceptional customer service to patients and stakeholders, responding to inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Adhere to all applicable NSH/PLM policies and procedures, maintaining a high level of professionalism and integrity.
- Recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent.
- Current registration with CSMLS.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology.
- Manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments and small objects.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
We offer a competitive hourly rate of $23.19 - $26.27, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, and a defined benefit pension plan.
