Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated Electrical Engineering Co-op student to join our Field Operations team in Acheson, Alberta. As a Summer Student P&C Telecom System Technologist, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of AltaLink's transmission system with a focus on Telecommunications and Protection & Control equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, inspect, and maintain Protection & Control and Telecommunication devices associated with AltaLink's transmission system.
  • Interact constructively with Field Operations, Maintenance Planning & Scheduling, System Operations, and other departments within AltaLink.
  • Develop Field Level Hazard Assessments/Safe Work Plans, perform P&C Telecommunications work safely, and ensure a high level of reliability to our customers.
  • Trouble response for Protection & Control and Telecommunication equipment in the area.
Requirements
  • Full-time student enrolled in a related and recognized two-year Electrical, Wireless, Telecom, or Electronics Engineering Technology program.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work safely and show concern for environmental, health, and safety issues in the workplace.
  • Knowledge and adherence to safety practices, procedures, and standards required.
  • Be competent and comfortable working with computers and spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to build rapport.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Have a valid Class 5 driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Capable of passing the physical fitness and medical requirements.
