The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for a permanent full-time Ed-Lab Tech III position at SAIT. Reporting to the Academic Chair, this role provides maintenance and service support to the Welding, Heavy Equipment, Machinist, Millwright, Autobody, and Automotive programs with possible other departments in Transportation and Manufacturing as required. This position will also require coordination and supervision of maintenance projects throughout the two schools.

The Role
Our ideal candidate will be responsible for:
  • Controlling and maintaining all inventory used in the labs, stocking consumables, and preparing and stocking associated materials.
  • Processing (cutting & shearing) metal coupons for labs.
  • Performing maintenance and repairs to operational and non-operational equipment to OEM standards, such as welding equipment, diesel engines, and transmissions.
  • Preparing and maintaining demonstration equipment for the instructors in the labs and providing technical support to the sections.
  • Researching equipment specifications for proper repair schedules and procedures.
  • Monitoring and maintaining hand tools, power tools, and tool boards and maintaining inventory of all tooling.
  • Adhering to safety legislation, guidelines, and safety standards as required by government agencies or regulators, and those communicated by management and supervisors.
  • Following all SAIT general Health & Safety regulations, rules, codes of practice, and standard operating procedures in the HSME Manual.
  • Fabricating training aids and stands for demonstration units.
  • Organizing, coordinating, and setting up lab environments for instructors.
  • Supervising the work of others on maintenance projects.
  • Communicating general objectives and goals and work assignments to your team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Our ideal candidate will possess:
  • A minimum High School Diploma.
  • Strong communication, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent organizational skill and time management.
  • Fluent in English reading and vocabulary.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to supervise others.
  • A Class 5 license – abstract required.
  • Must be able to safely lift 20 kilograms, extended walking, bending, etc.
  • Must be willing to be trained in the following: SAIT COR Safety program, First Aid (Emergency), WHMIS, and any section-specific training.
  • Journeyperson certification in an applicable trade is preferred (ie. Welding, Heavy Equipment, Millwright, Automotive).
  • Ability to adapt to situations such as unexpected workloads.
  • Can provide service with a smile.
  • Intermediate level proficiency in MS Office: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
