The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technologist III to join our team at SAIT. This permanent full-time position will provide maintenance and service support to various programs, including Welding, Heavy Equipment, Machinist, Millwright, Autobody, and Automotive.

The Role

As a Technologist III, you will be responsible for:

  • Controlling and maintaining inventory used in the labs, including stocking consumables and preparing and stocking associated materials.
  • Processing metal coupons for labs.
  • Performing maintenance and repairs to operational and non-operational equipment to OEM standards, including welding equipment, diesel engines, and transmissions.
  • Preparing and maintaining demonstration equipment for instructors in the labs and providing technical support to the sections.
  • Researching equipment specifications for proper repair schedules and procedures.
  • Monitoring and maintaining hand tools, power tools, and tool boards and maintaining inventory of all tooling.
  • Adhering to safety legislation, guidelines, and safety standards as required by government agencies or regulators, and those communicated by management and supervisors.
  • Following all SAIT general Health & Safety regulations, rules, codes of practice, and standard operating procedures in the HSME Manual.
  • Fabricating training aids and stands for demonstration units.
  • Organizing, coordinating, and setting up lab environments for instructors.
  • Supervising the work of others on maintenance projects.
  • Communicating general objectives and goals and work assignments to your team.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum High School Diploma.
  • Strong communication, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent organizational skill and time management.
  • Fluent in English reading and vocabulary.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to supervise others.
  • A Class 5 license – abstract required.
  • Ability to safely lift 20 kilograms, extended walking, bending, etc.
  • Willingness to be trained in the following: SAIT COR Safety program, First Aid (Emergency), WHMIS, and any section-specific training.
  • Journeyperson certification in an applicable trade is preferred (e.g., Welding, Heavy Equipment, Millwright, Automotive).
  • Ability to adapt to situations such as unexpected workloads.
  • Can provide service with a smile.
  • Intermediate level proficiency in MS Office: Word, Excel, and Outlook.


Job Classification: Technologist III

Salary Range: $73, - $83,928

Hours per week: 40hrs
