Salary Information

We offer a competitive salary range of $42,500 - $52,000 per year, based on experience.

Job Description

As an Early Childhood Development Specialist, you will play a vital role in creating nurturing environments for children. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing personal care to children, including toileting, first aid, medication administration, dietary monitoring, allergies, and medical conditions;
  • Engaging with children and ensuring their safety in group settings up to 15 children independently;
  • Planning and implementing play-based learning in accordance with the YMCA Curriculum;
  • Maintaining positive communication with families, staff, and volunteers;
  • Creatingsupportive environments for children with exceptional behaviors and additional needs;
  • Demonstrating appropriate behaviors aligned with our Mission, Vision, and Values;
  • Adhering to work schedules to maintain program ratios and providing adequate notice for unexpected scheduling changes;
  • Demonstrating flexibility with routines and schedules;
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you must have:

  • Minimum 18 years of age;
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification or completion within the first 90 days of employment;
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check;
  • Up-to-date immunizations or equivalent in accordance with local public health and Child Care Early Years Act requirements;
  • Availability: minimum 2 full days per week (full availability 7am-6pm both days) or 3 afternoons 2:30-6pm;
  • Passion for working with children and delivering quality play-based learning;
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with families, staff, and volunteers;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 20 kg, and participate in physical activities;
  • Ability to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily, year-round, in all weather conditions.
