Database Developer

This is a full-time, permanent position with School District #42 (Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows). The successful candidate will be responsible for the programming and administration of the district's database servers and custom web-based software applications.
Key Responsibilities- Gather technical requirements, plan, design, test, maintain, and support District databases and custom web-based software applications.
- Assist in the design, implementation, and documentation of complex systems and centralized District computer resources.
- Test, evaluate, modify, and maintain current and new hardware/software, computer programs, and systems to improve workflow.
- Manage, maintain, enhance, secure, and report on data and systems for optimal performance, including highly confidential systems and databases such as Payroll, Human Resources, and Financial Information systems.
- Conduct technical research on system upgrades to determine feasibility, cost, and time required and compatibility with current systems.
- Prepare detailed flow charts and diagrams outlining system capabilities and processes; write systems and application documentation.
- Provide functional support and expand capabilities in the areas of programming and administration.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, guidance, and advice to staff as required.
- Continuously upgrade skills to keep abreast of new technology.
- A BCIT or equivalent post-secondary degree in Computer Sciences/Information Systems and four (4) years of directly related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Microsoft Certified Database Administrators (MCDBAs) or Microsoft Certified Application Developers (MCADs) certification and/or a minimum of 4 years of direct database development.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with C# and Transact-SQL.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with CSS, HTML, and JavaScript.
- Extensive experience in developing software solutions in MS Visual Studio.
- Experience designing and writing software scripts to automate routine tasks and simplify system administration.
- Demonstrated ability as a team player with effective communication and problem-solving skills.
- A self-starter with proven initiative in developing and executing IT projects and identifying opportunities for efficiencies.
- A valid BC Driver's License.
