Job Overview

The Manitoba Government is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Director of Forestry and Peatlands within the Department of Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources. The successful candidate will be responsible for program planning and implementation, financial management, and human resource management for the Forestry Branch, including forestry staff across the province.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement, and enforce Manitoba's forestry and peatlands resource policies, guidelines, legislation, and associated regulations.
  • Lead a team of forestry staff across the province, providing guidance and oversight on forestry-related programs and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to advance the goals of the Forestry Branch.
  • Foster partnerships with Indigenous communities and organizations to address natural resource management issues.

Requirements:
  • Senior management experience with a post-secondary degree in forestry, natural resource management, public administration, business administration, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience working with forestry and peatlands-related programs and issues, as well as related policies, legislation, and regulations.
  • Proven leadership skills, including experience successfully coordinating, fostering, and developing multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to advise senior leaders and develop politically sensitive material.
