Job Description

We're seeking an energetic and adaptable individual to fill the role of Accounting Representative within our Accounting Department in Montreal. This is a unique opportunity to work in various accounting functions, such as Accounts Receivable & Collections, Cash Application, Customer Billing, or Accounts Payable.

In this role, you'll have many interactions and relationship-building opportunities with other CN departments, such as Sales & Marketing, Purchasing, Engineering, and Operations. You'll be responsible for billing customers (commercial or government accounts for rail-related services or recoverable costs), tracing amounts owed and information regarding billing, late or non-payments, or processing supplier invoices and payments.

You'll provide superior customer service, collaborate with internal and external customers to resolve issues and overcome hurdles for timely and accurate billing and payments. You'll also troubleshoot issues preventing the timeliness or accuracy of billing and payments, and escalate to the appropriate department or manager where necessary.

This position focuses on the validity and collectability of billings and payments and is on the front line for resolving issues and developing customer relationships.


Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Between 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in Accounts Receivable Collections, Cash Application, Customer Billing, or Accounts Payable
  • Fluently bilingual both written and verbal (English, French)
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Business Objects)
  • Knowledge of Systems, Applications, and Products (SAP)

Training and Development

The Accounting Representative may undergo a structured 7-week classroom training program where the incumbent learns about CN's business, invoicing and collection processes and policies as well as systems used to support accounts receivable activities. Following successful completion of the formal classroom training, there is a 5-week on-the-job training with qualified Representatives from the team.
