Job Summary

Hamilton Health Sciences is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre. As a member of our healthcare team, you will provide high-quality patient care and coordinate care plans to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care to patients with malignant hematological diseases, including intensive chemotherapy, transfusion, and antibiotic support.
  • Coordinate and evaluate patient care, ensuring that all aspects of care are met and that patients receive the best possible care.
  • Work collaboratively with the healthcare team to develop and implement care plans that meet the unique needs of each patient.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians, and monitor patients for any adverse reactions.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families, helping them to understand their diagnosis, treatment options, and care plans.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of policies and procedures that promote excellence in patient care.
Requirements
  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Recent experience in the care of oncology patients, preferably with experience in antineoplastic drug administration.
  • Advanced oncology-nursing credentials, such as the Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course, are an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current assessment and management of acute care malignant hematology patients receiving chemotherapy, radiation, or palliative care.
  • Demonstrated experience and skill in chemotherapy administration, IV starts, and the care of central lines.
  • Preferred experience in the care of patients undergoing blood cell transplantation.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to support patients and families of patients who are terminally ill.
