Nurse Specialist

Hamilton Health Sciences is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre. As a member of our healthcare team, you will provide high-quality patient care and coordinate care plans to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Provide nursing care to patients with malignant hematological diseases, including intensive chemotherapy, transfusion, and antibiotic support.
- Coordinate and evaluate patient care, ensuring that all aspects of care are met and that patients receive the best possible care.
- Work collaboratively with the healthcare team to develop and implement care plans that meet the unique needs of each patient.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians, and monitor patients for any adverse reactions.
- Provide education and support to patients and their families, helping them to understand their diagnosis, treatment options, and care plans.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of policies and procedures that promote excellence in patient care.
- Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
- Recent experience in the care of oncology patients, preferably with experience in antineoplastic drug administration.
- Advanced oncology-nursing credentials, such as the Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course, are an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current assessment and management of acute care malignant hematology patients receiving chemotherapy, radiation, or palliative care.
- Demonstrated experience and skill in chemotherapy administration, IV starts, and the care of central lines.
- Preferred experience in the care of patients undergoing blood cell transplantation.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Demonstrated ability to support patients and families of patients who are terminally ill.
