Job Summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to join the Home Oxygen Program team at George Pearson Centre in Vancouver, BC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess clients and their oxygen systems in their homes, clinics, or other community settings.
  • Provide ongoing respiratory care to clients with various illnesses or diseases, including acute and chronic respiratory conditions.
  • Enhance quality of life for clients and their families.
  • Liaise with internal and external partners regarding the implementation of care and therapies for clients.
  • Demonstrate continuous improvement and best practice approach in respiratory practice.
  • Maintain and advance own clinical competence.
  • Participate on committees and teams as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program.
  • Successful completion of the Health Professionals Testing Canada (HPTC) Credentialing Exam.
  • Eligibility for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists and BC Society of Respiratory Therapists.
  • Valid driver's license for local area travel.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Broad knowledge of The National Alliance of Respiratory Therapy Regulatory Bodies (NARTRB) National Competency Framework.
  • Broad knowledge of current respiratory care theory and practices within a client-centered model of care.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and develop/maintain collaborative relationships.
  • Ability to adapt to changing health systems and understand the broad determinants of health.
  • Ability to assess client responses to care and respond appropriately.
  • Ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
  • Proficiency in the use of respiratory and other equipment and techniques.
  • Knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
  • Ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in various settings and with diverse populations.
  • Computer literacy in common computer applications.
  • Ability to physically perform the duties of the position.
