Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Taxation Manager to join our team in our St. Catharines office. As a Taxation Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Final Review of Tax Compliance
    • Reviewing tax returns for individuals, corporations, trusts, and partnerships, and related foreign reporting requirements;
    • Ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations;
  • Lead and Direct Tax Planning Engagements
    • Leading tax planning engagements and preparing technical tax memos;
    • Providing guidance on tax planning strategies and recommendations;
  • Review Instruction Letters
    • Reviewing instruction letters for the execution of corporate reorganizations, estate & post-mortem tax planning, business succession planning, and the purchase & sale of a business;
    • Ensuring that all necessary documentation is complete and accurate;
  • Conduct Tax Research
    • Conducting tax research and interpreting tax legislation and proposed legislative changes;
    • Providing recommendations for proactive solutions to clients, Senior Managers, and Partners;
  • Delegate Tasks
    • Delegating tasks where appropriate and managing their completion within firm quality and client delivery standards;
    • Ensuring that all tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner;
  • Correspond with the Canada Revenue Agency
    • Corresponding with the Canada Revenue Agency and provincial ministries on client-related issues;
    • Ensuring that all correspondence is accurate and complete;
  • Act as a Technical Resource
    • Acting as a technical resource for the firm and taking a proactive approach to the mentoring and development of staff;
    • Providing guidance and support to junior staff members;
  • Participate in Client Meetings
    • Participating in client meetings to discuss schedules, technical issues, and recommendations;
    • Ensuring that all client meetings are productive and effective;
  • Manage Billings and Recoverability
    • Proactively managing billings and recoverability on tax engagements;
    • Ensuring that all billings are accurate and complete;

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience in a public accounting practice, with a minimum of two (2) years specializing in taxation;
  • A Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant Designation (CPA, CA);
  • A willingness to enroll, or currently enrolled in the CPA In-Depth Tax Course, or successful completion of the MTax program;
  • A thorough understanding and experience with Canadian income taxation, with tax planning experience as an asset;
  • An eagerness to be continuously learning and gaining experience in a broad range of tax concepts;
