Job Summary

This role is located in Fort Simpson and reports to the Nurse in Charge, with guidance from the Stanton Territorial Hospital medical travel manager. The incumbent is responsible for interpreting medical travel benefit entitlements for patients and escorts arriving, staying, and departing Fort Simpson. They must communicate and explain these benefits to clients and other interested parties while maintaining patient confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Knowledge of the NWT Health and Social Services system, Canada Health Act, NWT geography, and cultures, as well as the transportation industry, particularly northern air travel.
  • Medical terminology and air transportation terminology knowledge.
  • Typically acquired through graduation from Grade 12, post-secondary education in healthcare or travel-related fields.
  • Knowledge of non-violent crisis intervention techniques is an asset.
  • 2-3 years of related work experience in the travel or healthcare industry, with direct experience dealing with the public.
  • Patience, tact, good written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Good telephone communication skills and proficiency with current computer programs within the GNWT medical travel department.
  • Initiative, time management, and organizational skills are essential for making decisions regarding almost every case.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 completion and 2-3 years of experience working directly with the public in healthcare or travel industry.
What We Offer

The salary range for this position is from $38.05 per hour to $45.44 per hour (approximately $74,198 - $88,608) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $12,839.
