Academic Support Associate

Saskatchewan Polytechnic seeks a dedicated Academic Support Associate - Casual to join our team. As an integral part of our learning services, you will provide essential support to students in various content areas, fostering their academic success and confidence.
About the RoleThis casual position requires flexibility, with availability up to 9 hours a week, including evenings and weekends as determined. You will work collaboratively with Learning Services instructors to create a supportive environment for students, incorporating diverse learning needs and methodologies.
Duties and Responsibilities- Provide one-to-one or group support to students through online, drop-in, appointment-based, or workshop tutoring modes.
- Offer general tutoring support to students in specific content areas.
- Assist students in developing learning success skills and strategies within the online or face-to-face environment.
- Identify study resources appropriate to support specific course content and share with students to enhance their individual learning habits.
- Maintain a positive learning environment while assisting students in building their confidence, knowledge, and abilities in their studies.
- In consultation with Learning Services Instructors, seek clarification from program instructors to meet course expectations.
- Be reflective of and responsive to accommodation of diverse learning needs, including equity groups and English language learners, through the use of appropriate instructional methodologies.
- Support Learning Services instructors as directed, which includes recording and maintaining quantitative records; researching and collecting student-friendly support and reference materials.
- Work cooperatively in an interdependent team environment.
- Participate in mentorship and training sessions.
- Pursue professional development opportunities to stay current with employer and educational requirements.
- Adhere to regulations and policies adopted by Saskatchewan Polytechnic.
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Relevant experience in subject-specific content areas and online tutoring.
- Minimum of 6 months' experience in the last 2 years as a tutor in an online learning environment.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to function as a team member in an ever-changing environment.
- Demonstrated competence and recent experience in the use of the internet, email, MS Office Suite software, and ability to learn and adapt to changing technology.
- Demonstrates valuing diversity.
$30-$40 per hour, based on relevant experience and qualifications.
