Job Title: Autism Support Assistant

At Kerry's Place Autism Services, we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Autism Support Assistant to join our team. As an Autism Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing support and services to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

About the Role:
Reporting to the Manager, Services and Supports, the Autism Support Assistant will provide coaching and support in the areas of social skills, communication, and leisure activities. Responsibilities may include:
  • Providing coaching and support in social skills, communication, and leisure activities
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with families, supports, and community members
  • Administering medication as per procedure
  • Following Behavioral and Crisis Protocols as documented

Education and Experience Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a Human Services Diploma from a recognized Community College or University, or a Personal Support Worker certificate from a Community College or a registered and Ministry-approved Private Career College. Alternatively, the candidate may have completion of Ontario Secondary School (or equivalent) and 1 year of related experience (preferably supporting people diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder).

Knowledge Requirements:
The successful candidate will possess solid written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in a team. Additionally, the candidate must have the ability to physically support adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder and complete the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification, as well as perform the required physical techniques. Training will be provided at no cost.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
The Autism Support Assistant will work in a fast-paced environment, providing support to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The ideal candidate will have a valid Driver's License, with a minimum G2, and access to a reliable vehicle. Proof of third-party liability insurance coverage is also required. As a condition of employment, employees must be able to provide a Driver's Abstract in good standing with fewer than three demerit points.
