The Department of History at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure-stream position in African History. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025.

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in History or a related area, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths. Geographical and chronological specialization are open, but the department especially welcomes candidates whose work encompasses Southern Africa.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence, including a record of high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked journals, a research statement, and strong endorsements from referees.

Evidence of excellence and innovation in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, a teaching dossier, and strong letters of reference.

Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Applicants must submit a cover letter, a current curriculum vitae, a research statement, one recent publication, and a teaching dossier, which includes a teaching statement, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations.
