Indigenous Student Support Specialist

At Rockingstone Heights School, we are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, particularly those from Indigenous backgrounds. We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Mi'kmaw/Indigenous Student Support Worker to join our team.
About the Role:The successful candidate will work closely with the Regional Coordinator of Mi'kmaw Education/Services to provide targeted support to Indigenous students, promoting their academic success and well-being. This role requires a strong understanding of Indigenous cultures and experiences, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement strategies to support Indigenous students' academic achievement and personal growth
- Collaborate with school staff and community partners to promote cultural awareness and understanding
- Provide individualized support to students, including case management and record keeping
- Work with the Regional Coordinator to develop and implement initiatives that address the unique needs of Indigenous students
We are seeking a candidate with:
- An undergraduate degree in social sciences or social work, or a combination of work experience and life skills training
- Experience working with Indigenous students and communities, with a focus on enhancing their strengths and abilities
- Minimum three years of experience providing targeted support to youth
- Experience with case management and/or record keeping, an asset
