Indigenous Student Support Specialist

At Rockingstone Heights School, we are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, particularly those from Indigenous backgrounds. We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Mi'kmaw/Indigenous Student Support Worker to join our team.
About the Role:The successful candidate will work closely with the Regional Coordinator of Mi'kmaw Education/Services to provide targeted support to Indigenous students, enhancing their academic achievement and overall school experience. This role requires a strong commitment to facilitating student success, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement strategies to support Indigenous students' academic success
- Collaborate with school staff and administrators to promote a positive and inclusive school culture
- Provide guidance and support to Indigenous students, families, and communities
- Work closely with the Regional Coordinator to develop and implement initiatives that address student achievement for Indigenous students
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- An undergraduate degree in social sciences or social work, or a combination of work experience, life skills training, and training in working with students
- Experience working with Indigenous students and communities, with a focus on enhancing their strengths and abilities
- Minimum three years of demonstrated experience providing targeted support to youth
- Experience with case management and/or record keeping is considered an asset
