Medical Imaging Nurse

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Imaging Nurse to join our team at Fraser Health. As a Medical Imaging Nurse, you will be responsible for providing direct nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic imaging and interventional procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and monitor patients' physical and psycho-social needs
- Identify problems, plan, implement, document, evaluate, and coordinate nursing care
- Consult, confer, and collaborate with other healthcare providers and team members
- Provide individualized nursing care to patients with variable complexities of illnesses or injuries
- Assess patient health status, identify patient/family priorities, and plan, monitor, and revise care plans as required
- Act to resolve problems or relieve care/emergent situations
- Assist radiologists during diagnostic and interventional procedures
- Carry out procedures required for equipment setup, aseptic counting, and opening of instruments and supplies
- Interpret basic ECG data and anticipate need for additional equipment
- Set up intravenous lines, administer blood products and oxygen therapy, and perform various health care interventions
- Monitor patient status and maintain critical care safety protocols
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families and provide emotional support
- Verify patient identity, check consent, and provide explanations and reassurances to patients and families
- Advocate for and facilitate informed choices and teach patients/families about specific procedures and post-procedure care
- Anticipate, prepare for, and respond to unexpected critical situations
- Organize priorities in response to fluctuating workload volumes and patient treatment requirements
- Assess patients for discharge and consult with peers and other caregivers to identify and resolve patient/family care issues
- Document patient/family perspectives, nursing observations, and activities that support patient/family priorities
- Maintain complete and accurate computerized and paper records
- Use appropriate supplies and equipment for patient care and maintain patient-monitoring equipment
- Handle, store, and dispose of workplace hazardous materials and sharps
- Respond to incidents and complete Incident Reports
- Participate in unit/team/program activities to enhance and optimize care delivery and facilitate evidence-based nursing practice
- Apply an evidence-based approach to clinical problem solving and participate in approved nursing and interdisciplinary research and special projects
- Provide guidance on clinical and health-related tasks to designated caregivers and guide the clinical experience of assigned students and new staff
- Maintain and update own clinical knowledge and develop a plan for professional development
Qualifications:
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
- Completion of a recognized high acuity specialty nursing certificate and one year of recent related interventional medical imaging experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate
Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability in nursing practice within an angiographic and/or interventional medical imaging setting
- Demonstrated ability to assess patient responses and respond appropriately
- Demonstrated ability in the initiation and management of IV therapy and administration of IV medications
- Demonstrated ability to respond immediately and appropriately to emergencies
- Comprehensive knowledge of pharmacology and patient physiological reactions related to anesthesia and/or procedural sedation
- Demonstrated ability to plan and implement care plans
- Demonstrated ability to adjust to unexpected events, problem-solve, set priorities, and deal with conflict
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, coworkers, physicians, and other healthcare staff
- Demonstrated ability to counsel and teach patients and families
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership through initiative and independence
- Demonstrated ability to model and mentor new staff and students
- Demonstrated skill in clinical techniques and the use of applicable equipment and supplies
- Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques and the use of cardiac monitoring equipment
- Demonstrated computer skills, including the ability to effectively use a computerized patient care information system
- Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position
