Maple Leaf Foods is a leading meat processor and food manufacturer in Canada.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Swine Health Specialist to join our team at Western Manitoba.

Job Overview:

The successful candidate will oversee the health and production of animals, reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Animal Health.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Conduct herd health visits at owned and contract swine production sites, representing all stages of production.
  • Develop and maintain health plans for each site.
  • Build strong working relationships with production staff, nutritionists, and other stakeholders to improve health and production outcomes.
  • Lead and ensure adherence to biosecurity protocols.
  • Knowledge and support of best practices in swine production.
  • Manage annual budgets and benchmark health costs for all phases of production.
  • Purchasing decisions and consultation with pharmaceutical vendors.
  • Supervise veterinary technicians as required.
  • Sample and submit relevant diagnostics to respective laboratories.
  • Regional travel to various barn sites within the operation.

Requirements:

  • A valid license to practice veterinary medicine in Manitoba.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Understanding of swine diagnostic laboratory analyses, diseases, and treatments.
  • Ability to manage on-farm swine health within a budget.
  • Excellent communication, time management, organization, problem-solving skills.
  • Effectively building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Teamwork with Hog Production, Operations, Nutrition, and other key departments.
  • Relevant experience in medium to larger veterinary practice (porcine preferred).
  • Willingness to travel long distances.

Compensation:

The estimated salary for this position is $120,000 - $150,000 per year, depending on experience.
