Job Summary

The Clerical Support Specialist plays a vital role in the Department, working under the direction of nursing staff and physicians to coordinate patient appointments and perform clerical duties. This position acts as a receptionist, communicating with patients on the phone and in person, while also providing administrative support to the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinates patient appointments and performs clerical duties as directed by nursing staff and physicians.
  • Provides excellent customer service, responding to patient inquiries and resolving issues promptly.
  • Assists with word processing, data entry, and other administrative tasks as needed.
  • Reports to the Department Manager and works collaboratively with the team to achieve goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Minimum one (1) year of clerical experience in an acute care healthcare environment required.
  • Proven ability to attend work regularly and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Demonstrated current knowledge and skill in the use of medical electronic health record systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 12 required.
  • Medical Terminology Certificate required.
  • Diploma in Medical Office Administration or relevant post-secondary diploma preferred.
