About the Opportunity

As a Senior Indigenous Education Development Specialist, you will play a key part in developing and implementing initiatives that support Indigenous education and research at OISE.

Responsibilities

  • You will oversee the development, coordination, and execution of Indigenous education initiatives across OISE, ensuring effective collaboration and communication among stakeholders.
  • Under the direction of the Director of the Dean's Office, you will provide executive support to the Dean's Advisory Council on Indigenous Education (DACIE), ensuring timely completion of tasks and adherence to established processes.
  • You will build relationships with units across OISE, promoting collaboration, sharing best practices, and providing support for Indigenous student recruitment, retention, and success.
  • As a senior specialist, you will supervise staff, including the Administrator, Indigenous Education Network, and coordinate tasks for projects and strategic initiatives.
  • You will also be responsible for managing the IEN office space, team, and budget, as well as tracking reporting and documentation of activities related to Indigenous initiatives.
  • Additionally, you will respond to internal and external requests related to Indigenous teaching and learning, delivering presentations and providing input on program, project, and curriculum development.
  • Furthermore, you will work closely with the Advancement and External Relations office to participate in advancement and development activities, contribute to the development of targeted outreach and communications efforts, and develop proposals for external funding.
  • You will also maintain relationships with other Indigenous units and groups across the University of Toronto and community organizations.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree plus Post-Graduate Certificate or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum four years of experience related to Indigenous Education, preferably in a university environment.
  • Minimum four years of experience working within the Indigenous community in Toronto and understanding of Indigenous cultural safety and trauma-informed service delivery.
  • Community outreach and partnership development experience.
  • Experience supervising staff, including students and volunteers.
  • Project management, budgeting, and reporting skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrated experience delivering presentations.
  • Strong computer skills, including superior word-processing/excel skills and strong proficiency with MS Office tools.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of institutional efforts toward reconciliation and equity, diversity, and inclusion frameworks.
  • Familiarity with educational issues confronting Indigenous communities and approaches to supporting student mental health and wellbeing.
  • Ability to exercise discretion with sensitive issues and confidential materials, ability to exercise good judgment, and ability to work independently with little supervision.

Salary and Benefits

This full-time position comes with a competitive salary of $84,813, with an annual step progression to a maximum of $108,463, along with a comprehensive benefits package. The pay scale and job class assignment are subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
