Forensic Nurse

Fraser Health is seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our Forensic Nursing Services team. As a Forensic Nurse, you will provide comprehensive care to patients who have experienced trauma, ensuring their dignity, privacy, and rights are respected.
Responsibilities- Assess patients and collect information from various sources to determine the best course of care.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with patients and the interprofessional care team.
- Provide trauma-informed care, preserving patient dignity and autonomy.
- Collect and preserve forensic evidence according to established protocols and legislation.
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient care and case records.
- Prepare medical-legal reports as required for legal proceedings.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the interprofessional care team.
- Collaborate with law enforcement, judicial system, and community support agencies as needed.
- Participate in research and quality improvement activities to enhance patient care and outcomes.
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- One (1) year recent related nursing experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Eligible for completion of a recognized Sexual Assault/Forensic Nurse Examiner program.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to assess patients and provide comprehensive care.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the interprofessional care team.
- Knowledge of legislation applicable to forensic nursing.
- Ability to prioritize patient care and manage multiple responsibilities.
