Job Summary

Fraser Health is seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our Forensic Nursing Services team. As a Forensic Nurse, you will provide comprehensive care to patients who have experienced trauma, ensuring their dignity, privacy, and rights are respected.

Responsibilities
  1. Assess patients and collect information from various sources to determine the best course of care.
  2. Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with patients and the interprofessional care team.
  3. Provide trauma-informed care, preserving patient dignity and autonomy.
  4. Collect and preserve forensic evidence according to established protocols and legislation.
  5. Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient care and case records.
  6. Prepare medical-legal reports as required for legal proceedings.
  7. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the interprofessional care team.
  8. Collaborate with law enforcement, judicial system, and community support agencies as needed.
  9. Participate in research and quality improvement activities to enhance patient care and outcomes.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • One (1) year recent related nursing experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Eligible for completion of a recognized Sexual Assault/Forensic Nurse Examiner program.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to assess patients and provide comprehensive care.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the interprofessional care team.
  • Knowledge of legislation applicable to forensic nursing.
  • Ability to prioritize patient care and manage multiple responsibilities.
