Structural Engineer Job Description

Job Summary:


As a Structural Engineer at EXP, you will be responsible for conducting structural design of steel and concrete structures for new and retrofit projects. You will work on designing structural systems, developing schematic and design development options, and communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities:
  1. Design structural systems for new and retrofit projects, including steel and concrete structures.
  2. Develop schematic and design development options for structural systems.
  3. Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including colleagues, clients, and management.
  4. Ensure that colleagues have correctly interpreted communicated information.
  5. Collaborate with teams across offices on large projects.
  6. Responsible for sealing and signing of drawings.
  7. Manage small to medium size projects of varying complexity.
  8. Review status of checklists and standard letters as the project progresses.
  9. Consult with and oversee work of junior engineers and technical staff.
  10. Prepare questionnaire and coordination of specification documents.
  11. Understand project delivery types and their implications on the design process.
  12. Manage the design process and provide deliverables within your control on time and within budget.
  13. Stay up-to-date with various finite element software packages and their usage.

Requirements:
  1. Minimum of five (5) years of structural/civil experience in heavy industrial, preferably oil/gas and chemical facilities.
  2. Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering from a Canadian accredited university required.
  3. Professional Engineer (license in Ontario).
  4. Detailed software and overall code knowledge required.
  5. Experience with one or more of the following programs (ROBOT, STAAD, ANSYS).
  6. Proficient at AutoCAD, is required.
  7. Proficiency in Bluebeam, is highly preferred.
  8. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel required.
  9. Positive team player.
  10. Self-motivated, detail-oriented and client-focused.
  11. Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and work collaboratively on multiple projects at once.
  12. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
