We are seeking a highly skilled Legal Counsel or Senior Counsel to join our dynamic team at Intact, a leading insurance company. As a key member of our legal department, you will play a critical role in providing expert advice on insurance regulatory matters, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal guidance on day-to-day operational matters, including insurance product development, market conduct requirements, and federal and provincial licensing.
  • Analyze, draft, and negotiate various service and distribution contracts, ensuring alignment with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure the integrity of the legal and regulatory aspects of the distribution of financial products and services offered by Intact companies.
  • Participate in national strategic projects, collaborating with the Manager or Vice President of Legal Affairs as needed.

Qualifications

  • Member of the Barreau du Québec in good standing.
  • 3 to 7 years of experience at a large law firm or in-house department, in commercial, corporate, and/or insurance law, preferably in a regulated industry.
  • Superior technical legal skills, with excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Confidence in managing files independently with minimal support.
  • Comfort with technology tools, including good working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to assess practical implications of legal risks and think strategically.
  • Ability to proactively propose innovative business solutions.
  • Ability to build relationships with business units and stakeholders, influencing decision-making at the operational and corporate level.
  • Team player with exceptional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple files and projects simultaneously.
  • For candidates located in Quebec, bilingualism (French and English, both written and spoken) is required, considering the need to interact regularly with English-speaking colleagues across the country.
