Laboratory Technician, Diagnostic Services

**Job Overview**
We are seeking a skilled Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Provincial Laboratory Medicine Services (PLMS) in Surrey, BC.
**About the Role**
This is a key position that provides critical support to pathologists and laboratory staff in performing various tasks related to specimen handling, processing, and testing.
As a Laboratory Assistant, you will be responsible for:
- Assisting pathologists with gross tissue description and fine needle aspiration
- Loading cassettes on tissue processors, changing, recycling, and disposing of reagents according to established procedures
- Labeling glass slides for section cutting
- Disposing of pathology samples according to established protocols
- Preparing specimens and other items for shipment by packaging, labeling, and filling out requisitions
- Maintaining laboratory equipment, such as tissue processors, stainers, coverslippers, refrigerators, freezers, centrifuges, water baths, and testing equipment
- Performing daily cleaning and disinfection of work areas and equipment
- Receiving telephone/fax requests for information and directing requests according to established procedures
- Filing and organizing reports, requisitions, specimens, blocks, and slides
**Requirements**
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- Completion of Grade 12, successful completion of a recognized Lab Assistant training program, plus one year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to deal with others effectively
- Ability to organize work
- Ability to type at 25 wpm
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
**What We Offer**
