Job Title: Ingénieur de Projet "Water Engineering"

About the Role:

The Halifax Port Authority is seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to join our team. As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for planning, designing, and supervising the construction of minor capital projects, ranging in size from $5,000 to $150,000.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare drawings, specifications, and other documents as required
  • Perform necessary field work, including surveys, materials testing, and inspections
  • Input and analyze inspection and asset condition data in GIS database
  • Provide coordination support to Project Managers for infrastructure design and construction projects
  • Plan and execute repairs through qualified contractors or by supporting HPA's internal maintenance team
  • Ensure timely progress of projects through the design and construction stages and monitor project costs and schedules
  • Provide direction to consultants during conceptual design of projects and during construction component of projects
  • Ensure quality of materials and overall work provided by contractors complies with specifications
  • Check quantities of materials and work invoiced in contractors' progress claims
  • Prepare cost estimates for Capital projects
  • Attend meetings with consultants and contractors to develop and monitor project schedules
  • Respond to technical inquiries from contractors during the tender process

Requirements:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering combined with a minimum of 1-2 years' experience in construction or infrastructure maintenance
  • Must be a certified Professional Engineer or in progress of obtaining (EIT)
  • High degree of proficiency with SharePoint and Microsoft Office 365
  • Knowledge in AutoCAD and GIS (Geographical Information System) is an asset
  • Excellent command of the English language, both oral and written, including technical writing
  • Experience on project estimating, contractual matters, and managing project budgets is an asset
