About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Carpentry Specialist to join our team at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL). As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing a range of carpentry work associated with building maintenance and construction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Building and Repairing Structures: Interpret sketches or plans and perform skilled carpentry work to build and repair structures in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintenance and Repair: Perform skilled and semi-skilled work associated with the repair and finishing of building maintenance and construction to ensure customer satisfaction and a safe working environment.
  • Estimating and Costing: Provide cost and labour estimates as required to assist customers in calculation and budgeting of costs of renovations and additions.
  • Inventory Management: Keep a small inventory of spare parts and replenish these items, as required, to ensure a continuity of workflow.
  • Housekeeping and Safety: Maintain good housekeeping practices of all work areas, tools, and equipment, and adhere to provincial, federal, and CNL regulations to provide a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Training and Development: Assist in the training, coaching, and mentoring of trainees in safe workshop practices and procedures, including work planning, assisting, and development of skills.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor, assess, and correct work performance, discuss problems and improvements, and report progress to supervisor and identify further training needs.
Requirements
  • Education: Secondary school graduation diploma and qualification as a Carpenter.
  • Experience: Completion of the required 7200-hour apprenticeship or equivalent, and certification in Tube and Clamp scaffolding.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of all applicable codes and standards to provide a safe and healthy work environment, demonstrated use and endorsement of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), written and verbal communication skills to work in multi-trade groups and communicate with CNL staff, knowledge of and ability to operate a variety of woodworking tools, ability to estimate quantity, quality, size, and price of materials required, and ability to improvise, analyze, troubleshoot, and implement conceptual drawings.
  • Security Clearance: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom.
