Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Occupational Therapist to join our team at Coast Mental Health. As an Occupational Therapist, you will play a vital role in providing individualized direct care services to residents, including assessments, care planning, and implementation of psychosocial rehabilitation plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct occupational therapy assessments and develop relevant care plans in collaboration with residents, their support systems, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Provide direct professional services, including supportive counseling, life skills training, and psycho-education to residents and their support systems.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and document resident PSR plans, and liaise with community-based agencies to ensure support for residents.
  • Work with other team members to screen referrals and assess residents for admission to the facility, and participate in the admission, discharge, and transfer of residents.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of occupational therapy interventions and communicate changes in resident condition to the Mental Health Team and physician/psychiatrist.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of resident and/or group activity programs, rehabilitation programs, or other programs.
  • Provide continuous assessment of resident ability to perform activities of daily living by participating in group and individual activities related to personal life, leisure, education, and work.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary activities, such as resident conferences and daily/weekly report meetings.
  • Participate in student education by providing guidance and input to current and potential occupational therapy students, rehabilitation assistant students, and/or work experience students.
  • Provide consultation and in-services on specialized psychiatric services to other team members, communities, agencies, and groups, and represent the facility on committees as required.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Graduation from an approved School of Occupational Therapy, plus two (2) years recent related experience in the mental health field.
  • Current registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC and eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists - British Columbia (CAOT - BC).
  • Valid BC Driver's license - Class 5 and access to a vehicle.
  • First Aid & CPR Level C Certification.
  • Food Safe Certification.
  • WHMIS Certification.
  • Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Clearance.
  • TB Clearance.
  • Medical Clearance.
  • Immunization Records.
