The Senior Maintenance Technician will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of the Fogo Island Inn's facilities. This position requires a highly skilled and experienced individual who can oversee the day-to-day maintenance activities, troubleshoot issues, and implement preventive measures to minimize downtime.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilities Management: Oversee the maintenance of the Inn's facilities, including water treatment, boilers, refrigeration, humidifiers, hot tubs, HRV's, hydronic solar system, laundry, and kitchen equipment.
  • Maintenance Scheduling: Ensure that preventive and corrective maintenance tasks are completed in a timely manner, minimizing disruptions to the Inn's operations.
  • Spare Parts Inventory: Maintain an adequate and up-to-date inventory of spare parts to ensure that maintenance activities are not hindered by a lack of necessary components.
  • Housekeeping: Foster a strong culture of good housekeeping, ensuring that the maintenance team and contractors maintain a clean and organized working environment.
  • Team Development: Create a culture of engagement and continuous learning, developing and mentoring junior staff, and working towards the operation's goals and objectives.
  • Reporting and Record-Keeping: Update Excel spreadsheets related to maintenance activity as required, providing accurate and timely reports to management.
  • Work Coordination: Coordinate daily work activity and receive maintenance tasks from the Maintenance Team Lead, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Building Automation System: Monitor and troubleshoot the Fogo Island Inn's Building Automation System software, ensuring that it is functioning correctly and efficiently.
  • Safety and Compliance: Enforce and follow all applicable safety rules and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment for all staff and contractors.
  • Procedure Development: Prepare operating procedures/SOP's for system equipment and machinery, ensuring that all staff are aware of their responsibilities and procedures.
  • Appearance and Attire: Maintain a neatly dressed and groomed appearance, ensuring that the uniform is in good order.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate in a positive manner with all members of the team at the Inn, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Flexibility: Willing to work weekends, shift work, and overtime as necessary, ensuring that the Inn's operations are not disrupted.

Requirements:

  • Education and Certification: 2nd or 3rd Class Power Engineering designation or equivalent from any Canadian Province.
  • Driver's License: Valid Canadian driver's license is an essential requirement.
  • Accreditation: Accreditations in other trades considered an asset.
  • Communication Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, keeping all departments informed of any maintenance issues.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Problem-solving abilities, with a focus on finding efficient and effective solutions.
  • Attention to Detail: Great attention to detail, ensuring that all tasks are completed accurately and efficiently.
  • Team Player: Positive, outgoing, ambitious, and energetic, with a strong team player mentality.
  • Organizational Skills: Organized and strives for perfection, with a focus on maintaining a clean and organized working environment.
  • Community Passion: A passion for small communities, with a desire to contribute to the Inn's operations and the local community.
  • Eligibility: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
