Job Description

Job Title: Educational Assistant - Sign Language Support

Job Summary:

The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Assistant to provide support to students with hearing loss in our schools. As an Educational Assistant - Sign Language Support, you will work closely with teachers, students, and other support staff to create a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide instructional support to students with hearing loss, including signing and speaking English, translating and interpreting modified curriculum.
  • Assist students with mobility, toileting, changing, repositioning, and dressing.
  • Transfer and lift students using appropriate and safe techniques and devices.
  • Provide assistance with Glucometer, Insulin Pump, and other procedures related to diabetes, with training as required.
  • Administer routine medication needs as permitted under the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
  • Monitor and track the health needs of students.
  • Support students in developing communication and language skills through questioning, tracking for clarification, repeating, and reinforcing ideas.
  • Assist in supervision needs, including on class trips, in the classroom, washrooms, and hallways.
  • Participate as a member of the school collaborative team, acting as a resource to other staff members and taking part in the discussion of students' progress and needs.

Requirements:

  • Two (2) year college diploma in Educational Assistant Program or equivalent.
  • Six (6) months to one (1) year related experience.
  • Level 2 Signing (Completed to a minimum of course 203).
  • Current Non Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certification (Full Program).

Working Conditions:

The successful candidate will work in a school environment with moderate exposure to bodily wastes and fluids, foul language, and verbal abuse. The position requires moderate amounts of lifting or positioning physically disabled students and lifting materials under 5 Kg, as well as moderate amounts of bending and kneeling.

  • Always submits accurate reports, on time.
  • Manages time and prioritizes tasks to ensure that deadlines are met.
